Volunteer, Non-Profit & Community-Focused Experience

 

ENTREPRENEURIAL COACHING

Self  (since 2009)  

Provides coaching for startup businesses in a number of non-profit volunteer forums including GTEN (Getting There Executive Network), TEN (The Entrepreneurs Network) Boot Camp, and a new charter school initiative.

 

“IDEAMAKERS” SESSION - PATHWAYS TO entrepreneurial SUCCESS

Session Developer  (Nov. 2009 and ongoing)

Developed breakout session consisting of a panel of successful entrepreneurs with different success stories.  Included helping serve on the event planning committee, which will continue for upcoming events.

 

VOLUNTEER CREATIVE/MARKETING Presentations

Self  (since 1990’s)

Developed a presentation for college-level business & entrepreneurial classes, high school commercial design classes, Rotary Club, Small Business Development Council, etc. focused on advertising campaign development.  

 

Strategic RoundtableS & COMMITTEES – ROCHESTER AD COUNCIL

Volunteer (since early 1990s)

Frequently serve as a volunteer consultant on the Strategic Roundtable program focused on providing advice for non-profit organizations needing to improve brand identity. Also served on the  “Membership” and  “Newsletter” committees.  

 

PR/PSA COORDINATOR – PITTSFORD ROTARY

Board Member (2007)

Developed ongoing press releases and announcements for a variety of Pittsford Rotary news and events.  Also developed graphic designs for posters and ads when appropriate.  This was a continuation as a Board Member.  

 

BOARD of DIRECTORS – PITTSFORD ROTARY

Board Member/Pittsford Community Events (2006 – 2007)

Participated as a Board Member by helping determine approval for Pittsford Rotary projects, operating procedures, event participation, etc.  Also assured Pittsford-related community events were properly coordinated.  

 

PITTSFORD ROTARY BRANDING CAMPAIGN

Volunteer Project Developer/Manager (spring 2006)

Developed and managed an ad campaign to create fresh awareness of the Pittsford Rotary… “Fulfillment, Friendship, Fun” was a print campaign run in community newspapers, after being awarded a grant from Rotary International.  

 

PITTSFORD ROTARY

Member & Volunteer (2004 – 2007)

Actively volunteered on numerous Rotary projects – youth-focused initiatives, club fund-raisers, environmental issues, programs to help handicapped persons, food cupboards, and more.

 

Chatham Woods Homeowners’ Association

self  (mid 1990s – early 2000s)

Developed a neighborhood logo for use in letterheads, coffee mugs, etc.  Designed quarterly neighborhood newsletters.  Redesigned improved neighborhood entryway/garden sign fixtures.  

 

WEGMANS LIAISON with NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

Director of Advertising (thru 1998)

Spearheaded the connection of Wegmans with community organizations and important causes in new, expanding markets.  Easily differentiated Wegmans from competition, quickly driving customer loyalty in and market shares increases.  

 

LANTERN AWARD – ROCHESTER AD COUNCIL

Recipient for Numerous Contributions (1989)

Received the prestigious award for contributions to the Ad Council – especially focused around the development of the Volunteer Coordinator’s Handbook.  

 

Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Advertising Conference

Planning Committee Member (mid 1990s)

Participated on the FMI conference Planning Committee to help determine appropriate program content important to the retail food industry. Solicited key presenters. Was actively involved with the conference for many years.   

 

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR'S HANDBOOK – ROCHESTER AD COUNCIL

Project Manager (1989)

Designed and managed the creation of a reference guide for new Ad Council volunteer coordinators.  Prior to this initiative, there was no formal or consistent way to educate the growing number of project volunteers.  

 

WEGMANS UNITED GIVE-A-WAY FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Director of Advertising (1989 – 1991)

Directed advertising and creative activities for a novel United Way Community sweepstake-based campaign, beginning in Rochester, NY and expanding 2 additional years to other markets. Millions of dollars were raised for United Way agencies.  

 

WEGMANS NON-PROFIT & COMMUNITY PROMOTIONS

Director of Advertising (1976 – 1998)

Spearheaded a wide array of advertising and marketing initiatives that supported non-profit, community needs, and family events.  Such programs increased awareness, gave back to the individual communities in which Wegmans did business. 

 

EXECUTIVE BOARD of DIRECTORS – ROCHESTER AD COUNCIL

Executive Board Member (late 1980s)   

Collaborated in determining final approval for requests for Ad Council assistance by non-profit organizations as relayed by the Board.  Also provided valuable insights and networking for Wegmans Contribution Committee.  

 

BOARD of DIRECTORS – ROCHESTER AD COUNCIL

Board Member (mid 1980s)

Helped review and recommend various requests for Ad Council assistance by non-profit organizations in need of marketing communications assistance.  Positive recommendations were then forwarded to the Executive Board for final approval.  

 

LEUKEMIA SOCIETY of the FINGER LAKES

Rochester Ad Council Volunteer Coodinatior (late 1970s)

Developed a newspaper ad campaign to create awareness of the challenges faced by people battling leukemia, which would help drive increase contributions and funding of research for finding cures.

 

WEGMANS CONTRIBUTION COMMITTEE

Co-Founder/Director of Advertising late 1970s – 1998)

Conceived a corporate committee to screen, approve, organize and assess the performance of non-profit and community contribution requests coming to Wegmans.  Improved giving practices and enhanced relations within each community.
